Winter Activities

Chamonix has a fantastic range of slopes to suit all skiing abilities; from gentle beginner areas to some of the best off-piste skiing in the world. Please click on the links below to see maps and information for the individual ski areas:

Les Houches: A picturesque ski area set amongst the trees offering a wide selection of slopes for all abilities; ideal for families and a good place to get your ski legs back.

Brévent/Flégère: Two large south-facing ski areas connected by cable car with glorious views across Chamonix town to the Mont Blanc glacier. Great for intermediate and experienced skiers with a few blue and green runs. Le Savoy baby slopes are at the foot of Brévent.

Grands Montets: An exhilarating treat for the intermediate to experienced skier, this north-facing ski area guarantees some of the best snow in the valley, often late into the season. It also offers high altitude glacier skiing off l'Aiguille du Grand Montet at 3300m.

Balme/Le Tour/Vallorcine: A large interconnected ski area offering stunning views from the top of the valley and catering for all abilities, including La Vormaine for beginners.

There two further beginner areas in town where it is easy to enrol in lessons: Les Planards in Chamonix and Le Tourchet in Les Houches.

We can book ski and snow boarding classes as well as private tuition so please contact us for further details!

An unmissable experience for most intermediate and all experienced skiers and boarders. Join a guided group or hire a personal guide for this run as they will choose the most suitable path for you: descending off piste from the Aiguille du Midi, at an altitude of 3842m, and navigating across the Mer de Glace glacier. Please contact us for more details!

For beginners we recommend Ecole, a green run at the top of the Prarion ski lift in Les Houches, as it has a chair rather than button lift. Grands Montets has a park and board cross and for some great off piste through the forest head to the Tête du Balme chair lift in the Domaine du Balme. There are some great natural kickers along a lot of Flégère's runs and Brévent's air bag is a good place to practice some tricks!

Chamonix has a very good selection of trails for cross country skiers. You will find a very helpful team at the Chamonix office for cross country skiing (ski de fond) on avenue du Bouchet, tel: +33 (0)4 50 53 11 15. Please click here for the valley's trail map and to book onto a group or to hire a guide, please contact us.
